About the Theme: Embracing our Cross: The Path of Compassion
“If anyone wishes to come after me, you must deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow me.”
Luke 9, 23
Jesus boils discipleship down to its essence: If you want to be his disciple, you must “deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow me.” Notice the cross is personalized: it is your cross, or his cross, or her cross, or my cross. There are no generic crosses. But there is the grace of God who through Jesus reminds us that we never carry our cross alone. The journey of Lent is marked by the sign of the cross that seeks to deepen our sense of compassion.
